Butterfly Pink Angels Trumpet is a complex hybrid cross developed by the French breeder, H Blinn with large pink to peach flowers somewhat similar to Ecuador Pink in that they are large, have a white throat, and are heavily recurved with attractive, long whiskers. However the flowers hang at about a 15 to 25 degree angle rather than hanging vertically, which gives a nice view of the contrasted throat color, and remain more pink toned than peach in most soils and climates.
Plant in well drained soil where plant can be well irrigated until well established. Can be grown as a potted plant indefinitely.
Angel trumpet Facts
Angel trumpet is a type of evergreen or semi-evergreen plant that belongs to the nightshades family. This plant is also known as brugmansia. There are 7 species of angel trumpet that originate from South America. Because of its beautiful flowers and interesting morphology of the plant, angel trumpet became naturalized in tropical parts of Africa, Australia, Asia and North America. Angel trumpet prefers warm climate, moist and well-drained soil and full sun. It does not tolerate frost. Angel trumpet is often cultivated as ornamental plant. This plant can be cultivated easily, but it requires protection against pests such as glasshouse whitefly and mealybugs.
Interesting Angel trumpet Facts:
Angel trumpet grows in the form of bush or small tree. It can reach 10 to 36 feet in height.
Angel trumpet has large, alternately arranged leaves that are covered in tiny hairs.
Angel trumpet produces large, trumpet-shaped flowers that can reach 6 to 20 inches in length and 4 to 14 inches in width (fully open flower).
Flower hangs upside down. It can be pink, yellow, orange, red, green or white colored. Angel trumpet produces both single and double-flowered blooms.
Flowers of angel trumpet have pleasant smell that is especially strong during the night. Angel trumpet needs to attract moths (main pollinators of the flowers) that are active during the night).
Angel trumpet blooms during the spring, summer and autumn in temperate climates. It produces flowers during the whole year in tropical climates.
Angel trumpet can be propagated via tree cuttings or via seeds.
Angel trumpets are closely related to potato, tomato, eggplant, petunia and tobacco.
Angel trumpet contains toxic compounds, chemically known as alkaloids. They can be found in all parts of the plant. Seeds and leaves contain the highest level of alkaloids. These substances induce poisoning of humans. First signs of intoxication appear quickly after ingestion of the plant (even the smallest piece).
Certain species of butterflies eat angel trumpet and store alkaloids in the body to increase their chances for survival in the wild. High content of alkaloids in butterfly's body makes this animal unpalatable for the most predators.
Parts of angel trumpet can be used to induce euphoria and strong hallucinogenic effects. Cutting of body parts under the influence of angel trumpets has been reported.
Cultivation of angel trumpet is prohibited in some communities due to high content of toxic compounds.
Angel trumpet is used in folk medicine in South America for treatment of skin irritation, dermatitis, arthritis, infections, headache, rheumatism and different types of inflammations.
Alkaloids isolated from the plant (scopolamine, hyoscyamine, and atropine) have application in medicine because of their spasmolytic (substances that relax muscles), anti-asthmatic and anesthetic properties.
Angel trumpet is perennial plant, which means that its life cycle lasts more than two years.
Please note that multiple items can only be combined within the shopping cart at check out. ebay will automatically calculate the shipping cost based on the weight of the items and the destination zip code. We are unable to manually combine orders for shipping after checkout. I do use insecticidal soap and Neem oil (organic) when fungus gnats and such pests are present, but this rare.
I periodically release ladybugs into the greenhouse and they take care of most of the pests.
